This short radio play narrates aspects of Zimbabwean culture, history and language. Its protagonist is Shelly Nkhoma, a 64 year old woman from Zimbabwe.

The recordings with Shelly were made shortly before she left for her native Zimbabwe, after having worked in the UK as a care worker for over 10 years. She was very lively and enjoyed singing, dancing and expressing her viewpoints on all matters, big and small. She often commented on present situations with proverbs, which she translated from her native Shona language. She usually started a remark by stating: “Back home we say…”
