As an artist, Madeleine Walsh's practise attempts to map the journey from the internal private world into the external public world. In this vein she often finds herself straddling polarity; seeking the chaos in the quiet, the figurative in the conceptual and navigating the role of analogue in an increasingly digitised world. Though often diverse in her use of materials there is a common thread throughout her practice which seems to be tapered to navigating an experience of self; what it means to be me, what it means to be.

With her personal experience as a precursor, she tends to look to literature, philosophy and her surroundings as a means to understand and explore this narrative through her work. In doing so, she is increasingly interested in relationships between objects; curious material alignments that lead to new narratives, and the role of sound in the visual arts, as a means of marking space and creating immersive experiences that do not exist in the everyday.
