Slumber Song
2013; 9m12s

This is a piece which relates to the verbal/ intellectual side of sleeping and dreaming represented through the form of a poem; a poem about sleep. The piece is based around Siegfried Sassoon’s Slumber Song (1920). The piece examines the human voice and voice alone in this composition.

The decision to use only the sounds of the poem being spoken allows exploration of all the intricacies of the human voice and its complex timbral structure. The voice is used both as an instrument and as a clear sound on its own with the words unblemished.

Best experienced: Sat down, at ease, relaxed, possibly eyes closed.
